If we had one wish, it would be for our daughter Kaley, 17, to be able to live a care-free life. A life without Type 1 diabetes, a life without testing her blood sugar 8-10 times a day, a life without wearing her insulin pump everywhere she goes. The day Kaley was diagnosed with diabetes, a piece of her childhood was taken away. Over the past 6 years as a family we have faced many challenges and within the whirlwind of those emotions, we understood that education is and always will be the key to a successful diabetes management.
The current research is bringing us so much closer to a cure, but we aren’t quite there yet. Living with Type 1 Diabetes has been a roller coaster ride since Kaley was diagnosed February 9, 2006. We still have to monitor blood sugars up to ten times a day, and follow up with insulin after every meal. In order to keep blood sugar where it needs to be, she has to pay specific attention to her sugar, and drop what she is doing to make sure it where it should be. Whether she is playing soccer, eating with her friends or just hanging around in a group, taking care of her diabetes is always there.
Diabetes does not define our daughter or our family. Together we face type 1 head on & we continue educate.
The 2013 JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes is going to take place at Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts. We are asking you to help us raise money to defeat diabetes and to get rid of this horrible disease. On Sunday, October 20th, we will be walking with other families of children with diabetes to raise money to research for a cure. To join our team “ Kaley & Kompany” and walk with us Sunday, October 20th, call me at 860-741-7734 or check out the website at http://walk.jdrf.org and indicate that you would like to either walk or sponsor our team “Kaley & Kompany”. If you are not able to walk with us but would be willing to sponsor our team, please consider making a donation. Every little bit will help and 80% of all donations go directly to fund the research for a cure.
Donations can easily be made at http://walk.jdrf.org and indicate that you would like to sponsor team “Kaley & Kompany”. Checks made out to JDRF can be mailed to Kaley & Kompany at 27 Foxcroft Rd., Enfield, CT 06082. Every dollar raised brings us closer to a cure not only for me but the thousands of other children out there.
Thank you for caring.
