Dear Family and Friends,
Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Team Page!
Cary and I are once again taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people, like our son Rob, who are living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). In spite of our very late start, we are hoping to raise $2,000 to help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Since its founding in 1970, JDRF has awarded more than $1.6 billion to T1D research. In 2012 alone, JDRF provided more than $110 million for research and was named one of Forbes magazine's top five All-Star Charities.
Each year, more than 15,000 children and 15,000 adults--approximately 80 people per day--are diagnosed with T1D in the United States. The rate of T1D incidence among children under the age of 14 is estimated to increase by 3% annually worldwide.
What would it mean to have a cure if type 1 diabetes? It would mean no more finger pricks to check blood sugar levels several times a day, no more injections or insulin pumps, no more blood sugar flucuations and no more counting carbohydrates. More importantly, it would mean no more fear of developing blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, or nerve damage which can lead to amputation.
If you have taken time to visit our team page today, we ask that you please consider making a donation. To make a team donation, click on the "Donate" button at the top of this page. If you would like to make your gift specifically to Cary or me, click on one of our names below. If you prefer to send a check, please make it out to JDRF and send it to our home address.
By working together, we will turn TYPE 1 into TYPE NONE!
