Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
My son Miles came to me a few months ago and said, "Mommy, I want to help my friend Garrett with his diabetes and be in the Walk because I care for him." Miles has been best buds with Garrett since Kindergarten. He likes to go to Garrett's house to play and have fun and they are always at each other's birthday parties. They even played on the same baseball team this year (see picture 2)!
April marks the second year anniversary for Garrett and his family living with this terrible disease. Garrett is a very loving and ambitious, brave boy. Because Garrett's pancreas does not produce insulin on its own, Garrett receives insulin through multiple daily injections. He will never outgrow Type 1 Diabetes and it will never go away unless there is a cure.
His parents are constantly balancing insulin, measuring food and counting carbohydrates to keep his diabetes under control. They are concerned that without a cure, he will have to live with this forever and what that may mean for his future. They want him to understand that he is just like any other 7 year old little boy... except his pancreas doesn't work.
If you would like to help Miles support his friend Garrett please click on the blue "Donate to Karen" button above and follow the instructions. We are excited to be taking part in this year's Walk to help raise funds for TEAM GARRETT. The money we raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
We sincerely thank you for your support and donations. Any amount is greatly appreciated!
