Sam's Personal Page

Dear Friends and Family,

     I've been sitting here...staring at this sheet of paper...trying to find the words to tell you about our precious Sam's daily struggles to stay healthy.

     Can you imagine how frightening it is for a child to know that if he doesn't take his medicine, he could die?  Sam knows what this is like. He has type 1 diabetes and, as young as he is, he knows he can never miss an insulin shot. Ever.  If he accidentally forgot a dose he could wind up having a seizure or falling into a coma. Sam could die.

      This is the devastating reality for millions of people like Sam who have T1D.  Sam is just one of 15,000 boys and girls who get this dangerous disease every year.  He will have to fight every day for the rest of his life just to survive. Because right now, there is no cure.

     He will always have to count the carbohydrates in every bite he eats...prick his finger every few hours day and night to check his blood sugars...calculate how much insulin he needs...and take insulin shots six to eight tiimes a day.

   Our son now faces a future where he could go blind, be paralyzed by a stroke, or need to have his foot or leg amputated because of diabetes' long-term complications.  We need to stop this disease as soon as we possibly can.

     I know we can find a cure. All we have to do is work together.  If everyone gives whatever they can, I know we can stop this disease.  Please don't wait.  We're fighting for our son's future...for his life.  Your gift to JDRF will help Sam and the millions of other people living with diabetes.

     We just want our little boy to grow up healthy and strong.  Wouldn't you want the same thing for your kids?    We'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $2 million. On February 23, 2013 we will participate in the walk at the Mall of America in Bloomington.

     Sam is depending on you to help find a cure.  Please help him.  Every dollar makes a difference.
