Skylyn is 13 years old and in the 7th grade.  She has one brother, Brandon, who is 11 and a dog she adores, named Josie.  Skylyn was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on February 11, 2008.  She is on the Medtronic Revel 723 Pump and CGM.  She carries her pump around her waist in a pump pack and cannot be without her pump for more than 1-2 hours at a time.  She tests her blood sugar level 6-10 times a day and we do it for her 1-2 times every night.  Diabetes never sleeps, in fact there are many times we have to give her juice during the night or we have to correct a high.  Our dream for her and for herself is that a cure can be found in her lifetime and/or more supplies come out to make life easier for her so she no longer has to rely on set changes to her pump every 2-3 days, the CGM sensor change once a week, or carb counting all food/drinks.  The dangers of Diabetes is low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) which can cause seizures, and high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) which can cause ketones and even a coma.  We try to keep her A1C lower so she doesn't have to deal with complications later in her life.
