First, I would like to thank those of you who have given so generously in the fight to cure diabetes. Last year, with your help, Team Sophia's Hope raised over $4000! We hope to be able to match or better that amount for the walk on February 23, 2013.
Why am I walking to raise donations for JDRF?
When Sophia was first diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, I looked into her face and saw:
Sadness - as she asked 'why her' when she realized that she'd need insulin shots for the rest of her life
Frustration - that she cannot eat what she wants, when she wants without first needing an insulin shot
Exhaustion - from constant blood pricks in the middle of the night
Pain- as she crinkled her face to prep for another insulin shot
Fear - that people would look at and treat her differently
Hurt - because of the cruel child who teased her at school
Today I see:
Strength - as she faces Diabetes head on every single day
Courage - to fight for what she needs for a healthier life
Resilience - as she keeps moving forward to achieve her dreams
Love - as she encourages newly diagnosed children to adjust to Diabetes
and:
Hope - that she'll be free of Diabetes because we will find a cure.
Please help Sophia (and so many others) realize that Hope. Please donate.
Thank you very much.
Lisa
