Hi Everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are off to an amazing 2013. I'm excited because it's time for one of my favorite days of the year--the JDRF walk to cure diabetes.
On February 23 my friends and family get the chance to walk with thousands of other people to raise money for research and treatment of T1D. Its a day of fun and support for all of us who deal with the daily challenges of life with diabetes.
I have had Type 1 diabetes since December 2009. Managing diabetes can be hard sometimes. Testing blood sugar with finger pokes all day--counting carbs for everything I eat and balancing my physical activities can get a bit crazy. Diabetes never sleeps, it never goes on vacation, I'll never "grow out of it". But Guess what?? I sleep--I go on vacation and I grow every day! I also participate in a sport every season-- I play with my friends and I'm able to do just about everything I want to do as long as I plan ahead! I don't want diabetes to control me-- I want to control diabetes.
The JDRF walk to cure diabetes is awesome because money raised goes toward research and treatments for people like me with T1D. A great example is my insulin pump that I started using last summer. Now with the pump, I don't have to give a shot of insulin every meal time or when I want a snack and Its easier to control my blood sugar. The technology is getting better and the cure is closer. I hope you can join my team BROCK SOLID or donate to JDRF and help everyone with Type 1 diabetes.
Thanks and love---Brock
