Bryson's Blasters to find a Cure!

We will be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, to raise money towards a cure in honor of our son Bryson.  We are taking the steps to help achieve JDRF's mission: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.  The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.

Bryson is 5 years old and was diagnosed November 9, 2011. This has changed not only his life but our whole family's lives. What it means to Bryson to find a cure.. " To be my old self again".

Some updates for 2012/2013. 

Bryson started using the insulin pump in the summer. While this is very important for the management of diabetes, it still has it's challenges.  We also have Bryson on a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) which helps give us a better idea of his blood sugar trends. This allows us to fine tune the insulin amounts and to watch for high and low blood sugars.  It's not easy...

Bryson has started kindergarten, which means at snack time and before lunch he must visit the nurses office for insulin and a check of his blood sugar. If his blood sugar is too low, they force him to eat lunch in the nurses office until they can check him again and receive a higher blood sugar number.  Can you imagine a 5 year old not getting to eat lunch with his friends?  Don't forget that high blood sugar numbers are not good either. We must keep him in a tight range.  Which is next to impossible.

Please support our cause for a cure.  I would love my son to be able to live a "regular" life.

Our goals in participating in the walk are:

• Show our love and support for loved ones with Type 1 diabetes. (We love you Bryson!)
• Raise awareness about Type 1 diabetes.
• Raise money to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.

The JDRF Walk is a fantastic way to make a difference in the millions of lives of people affected by type 1 diabetes.  We are asking for your support. Now more than ever, EACH of us can make a real difference in the lives of people with type 1 diabetes.
