Welcome to our personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! This year, We be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our nationwide goal of raising $94 million.  

This year we aren't only walking to support our wonderful daughter Piper, but also our amazing son Croix as well.  Piper is now 2 1/2 and is such a pleasure to have in our lives.  She was diagnosed at 12 months with Type 1 diabetes.  It will be 2 years in may and she is such a brave little girl and so full of life.  Diabetes has not really affected her life, that she can tell anyway, other than she has to wear a special shirt every day that has a cute little pocket on the back (thanks to the sewing skills of my mom), that holds her Insulin pump.  The pump has worked great and now she is able to enjoy all her favorite foods without having to have a shot for every thing she eats.  She does have to have one big "poke" every 3 days, which is still better than the 5-6 shots a day she used to get!!

When Piper was diagnosed I was pregnant with our son Croix.  I am so thankful that I was already pregnant, because if I would have known how our lives were going to change I'm not sure I would have taken on the challenge of adding a 3rd kid to the mix.  Croix is now 16 months and the best little addition to our family.  Having a little boy has been a breath of fresh air, and isn't as "sassy" as his big sisters.  He isn't talking much yet, but that may be due to Piper not letting him get a word in!!

When Croix was 12 months old He also recieved the dreadful diagnosis of being a type one diabetic.  This time around it wasn't as scary since we already knew how to care for him.  The best part about that is that we got to bypass the hospital stay!!!  Croix has been a real trouper since day 1.  The first few times I had to check his blood sugar he just help up his little finger like it was no big deal.  Piper couldn't understand at first why I had to poke her little brother, but turns out she is his biggest supporter!! She always watched as Croix had to get his shots and she always said words of encouragment. ("It's ok Buddy, good job Buddy")  Croix needs about 5-6 shots a day and does really well with those too.  We have an insulin pump for him, but haven't started to use it for him yet.  I'm sure we will have 2 "pumpers" in this family in the next few months. 

Isabella (just turned 10), is our oldest daughter.  She is a great helper but it is hard for her to understand why both her siblings have diabetes and not her.  She knows how to test each of them and wants to learn more about how to care for them every day.  I think she should be an endocrine doctor, but she seems to be more like her father and wants to be a professional fisher woman!!

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, and can be fatal. There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
