Hello family and friends:
Some of you know a little over a year and a half ago I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. If you don't know, it's because it was something I began as wanting to keep to myself and sharing only with those that HAD to know. To me, it would go away eventually so I just ignored it. But, after more than a year of finger pokes, shots and higher blood sugar readings, I realized it isn't going away. Everyone deals with something and for me this is my "something".
I started this process knowing nothing about diabetes. Well I guess I did know a little because Stacey from the Babysitters Club books and movies had diabetes, but all I knew from that was when you go on a hike make sure to bring a snack :)
But thanks to organizations like JDRF I like to say "this is the time to have diabetes" because it is incredible the advancements in recent years (online resources, social media groups and THE PUMP) and I can't wait to see what the future brings.
I feel that I owe it to my future family, your future family and strangers on the street to "join the fight" so that one day, this is just one of those things that people used to have to deal with.
Thanks for your support.
Love: Marchelle
PS: My team name is to the song "We got the beat" by the Go-Gos :)
