Hello! This year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $89 million.
Type 1, or juvenile diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children.
Our son Gavan will be 9 years old in March. He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 3 years old. The life of a Type 1 Diabetic is not easy, countless finger pricks to test his blood, site changes, high blood sugars, low blood sugars, and lots of doctor appointments are just the beginning. Gavan is the strongest boy I have ever known, he doesn't let diabetes hold him back but it does make every day life that much harder. This disease effects everyone, we are all much stronger and even Logan and Callan pretend to get their sites changed when Gavan has to, and they like to count carbs as well. We have amazing support, but that doesn't change the fact that Gavan and all those suffering with Type 1 struggle everyday with the physical and emotional toll that comes with being a Type 1 diabetic. We pray all the time for a cure and this is our way of helping those that are trying to find one. Please if you can join us for the walk on February 22 at the Mall of America, and donate to Gavan's Gang! every dollar helps. Thank you.
There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!
