Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes TEAM NATHAN Page! We are taking the steps to help achieve the mission of JDRF: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. TO DO THIS, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
On October 30, 2008, our son, Nathan, was diagnosed with Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes. He was two weeks shy of his 4th birthday.
Since that day, we have learned much about Type 1 diabetes and how to take care of Nathan. We poke Nate's finger (blood sugar checks) 8-12 times per day (including 2-3 times every night) to make sure his blood sugar isn't too high or too low. Instead of multiple shots of insulin per day, Nathan is now using an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor. Nate will do this for the rest of his life until a cure is found.
Nathan is just like any other kid. At age 9 and in 3rd grade, he loves to play with his friends, read books, play games and sing songs. He enjoys going to Vikings and Gopher Football games and watching the Minnesota Twins. And he loves the Edina Girls' Basketball and Tennis Teams!!!!
Managing Type 1 diabetes is a challenge, but many promising therapies are emerging and we are hopeful for a cure soon.
This year, TEAM NATHAN will be once again be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $100 million.
THERE ARE THREE MAIN PURPOSES for TEAM NATHAN when it comes to the JDRF WALK TO CURE DIABETES:
1) PROVIDE SUPPORT, CARE AND LOVE FOR NATHAN.
2) Raise awareness about Type 1 diabetes.
3) Raise money to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
Want to help? You can do ANY one or more of the following things:
If you are interested in joining us for the walk, we'd love to have you there. You may also choose to donate money to the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, but NO MONETARY DONATION is required or expected to participate in the walk.
Again, THANK YOU for supporting Nathan and helping us to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
We are TEAM NATHAN!
