Baili LaValle

Join me in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes! XOXO

It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 6 months since Baili’s diagnosis on April 22nd, 2013. She continues to live a happy and healthy life filled with laughter and love. She continues to be involved in Dance, Girl Scouts, Religion, the Honor Roll and of course the social life of a middle school girl.

But, imagine this….Throughout out her busy schedule she manages to check her blood sugar by pricking her finger on an average of 8-10 times per day and injects herself with insulin 4-6 times a day. This is equivalent to an average of 3,000 finger pricks a year and 1,900 injections a year. She gets woken up in the middle of the night 1-2 times per week. She needs to carry a bag with all her supplies as well as emergency snacks and medicine wherever she goes and is becoming a wizard at math due to counting every carb that she eats in a day. Baili does all this with no tears and a big smile! She is truly our hero!

We are joining this year's Walk on Saturday February 22nd at Mall of America to raise funds to improve the life of not only Baili, but the lives of millions of people with type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF advance its strategic research plan to end T1D.

T1D is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, which the body needs to get energy from food. Managing the disease requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.

JDRF is working/funding research into a "smart insulin" that the body would only take what it needs, eliminating hypoglycemia (low blood sugars). They are also working on developing a pump that would be able to pump in a hormone that would elevate the blood sugar as it sensed it was getting too low. JDRF is working every day to change that. And, as the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research, every dollar JDRF directs toward its research plan comes from donors like you.

Please support my commitment and donate to my Walk fundraising efforts today. Your gift will make a difference for myself as well as the millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease.

Thank you for your support!
