Welcome to my JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes personal fundraising page!
We will be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, to raise money towards a cure in honor of our daughter Kaylee. We are taking the steps to help achieve JDRF's mission: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.
Kaylee is 2 years old and was diagnosed January 7, 2014. This has changed not only her life but our whole family's lives. What it means to Kaylee to find a cure.. "To be my old self again".
It has now been almost 2 months since her diagnosis. She is doing very well with how her life has changed. She pricks her own finger to test her blood, but the shots we have to work on a bit. Her father Brian was diagnosed November 3rd, 2008, along with alot of our family and friends that have been dealing with this disease.
What is Type 1 diabetes: (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that impacts millions of people around the world. The disease occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin, a hormone essential to turning food into energy. Without insulin, glucose from food stays in the blood, where it can cause serious damage to all of the body’s organ systems. Type 1 diabetes strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. It requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.
With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.
Our goals in participating in the walk are:
The JDRF Walk is a fantastic way to make a difference in the millions of lives of people affected by type 1 diabetes. We are asking for your support. Now more than ever, EACH of us can make a real difference in the lives of people with type 1 diabetes.
