JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes - Saturday, Feb. 23rd @8:00am

Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes THE DREAM TEAM page!  We are taking the steps to help achieve the mission of JDRF: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.  TO DO THIS, WE NEED YOUR HELP! The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.

On March 16th, 2010 our lives changed forever.  Jack was hospitalized with a diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes, the very next day Mark found out he was type 1 as well. Our team currently has 5 walkers with Diabetes; Jack, Mark, Shannon (Mark's sister), our friend John (Diagnosed as an adult in 2006) and our wonderful friend Susan (Diagnosed as a child 30+ years ago).  Her positive attitude towards life is a priceless gift.  Like others living with Diabetes, they endure 8-12 finger pokes and shots per day per person.  That's 300/month and 3,600/year!  That's the equivelant to a life time of shots for about 60 people!

Jack, is like any other kid.  He loves music, he loves to bug his brothers, and he love his friends & family.  He also DREAMS of the day when he'll be able to pick up a piece of food and just eat it, no proportioning, no measuring, no calculating and certainly no injecting!

Managing Type 1 diabetes is a challenge, but many promising therapies are emerging and we are hopeful for a cure soon.  This year, THE DREAM TEAM will be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $100 million.

THERE ARE THREE MAIN PURPOSES for THE DREAM TEAM when it comes to the JDRF WALK TO CURE DIABETES:
1) PROVIDE SUPPORT, CARE AND LOVE FOR Jack, Mark, Shannon, Susan, John and the countless other fighting this disease everyday.

2) Raise awareness about Type 1 diabetes.

3) Raise money to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people world wide!  50% percent of people diagnosed with Type 1 are children.  But Type 1 isn't just a children's disease... the other 50% are diagnosed as adults.  There is some good news, though. For the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure well within our lifetime!

If you are interested in joining us for the walk, we'd love to have you there.  You may also choose to donate money to the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, but please note that a monetary donation is not required or expected to participate in the walk.

Why are we THE DREAM TEAM?  For many reasons, but mostly... 1.  We are walking to make our DREAMS a reality.  We DREAM of a day with no more diabetes  2.  We are so blessed to have what we think are the best friends and family that support us in our new way of life.  Others could only DREAM to be as luck as we are!
