Welcome to our personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! Our family will be taking part in this year’s Walk to Cure Diabetes on October 6, 2013, at 10:00 AM at Upper Muny Lot at Forest Park to raise funds to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). If you ask people with T1D, they will tell you it is difficult and life threatening. And they know it never goes away.
Our daugher, Bethan, was diagnosed on February 28, 2011, at age 6. On our way to the hospital in St. Louis, she asked us if she was going to have to get a shot at the hospital. She ended up taking 4-6 shots every day, along with poking her finger 8-10 times a day. She had to deal with a lot, but was so brave and never cried for any of it!
Bethan has had her insulin pump for just over a year. This makes her treatment easier because she gets one insertion (kind of like a shot) every 2-3 days. She still has to count carbs and check blood sugars about 6-8 times a day. Bethan often tells us that she feels like a pin cushion! We are very thankful that we have great doctors and support from friends. However, there is never a break in dealing with the daily balancing act that Type 1 Diabetes is.
We are asking for your support. Please consider joining our team and/or donating to our fundraising efforts. By doing so, you can help make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes.
Did you know that:
As the leader of the type 1 diabetes community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat and prevent T1D. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?
Thank you for your support!
