Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Team Page! 

We are taking steps to help JDRF achieve its goal of improving the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. By joining our Walk Team and making a donation, you will be helping us to raise funds to directly support research with the greatest potential to conquer this disease.

I have had Type 1 Diabetes for 3.5 years and have been a captain for 5 walks. It's a great atmosphere seeing everyone come together. So many insulin pumps and syringes in one place :) Millions of people have diabetes and numbers are only growing. The neccessity for the cure is growing too. Help by donating, or just come along for the walk. It is an exciting day!

JDRF is working to cure diabetes, but meanwhile, it is trying to make life with diabetes as comfortable as possible. Their research includes creating an artificial pancreas and recently they have created an injection for the eye that helps prevent the damage type 1 can do. Many diabetics need to get glasses after being diagnosed, and excess glucose can also lead to blindness. There are already insulin pumps that can warn you if you will get hyper- or hypoglycemic and even a glucose meter that connects to your iphone. Personally, I'm waiting for a meter that does not require pricking my finger... one can always dream :) Although progress can never come quick enough, at least there is progress being made and that can't be done without the help of volunteers and donations.
