Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
I am walking on TEAM TY for my nephew, Ty Creasman. I'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people like Ty living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Let me tell you a little about Ty.... he's the most amazing young man you will ever meet. He is 10 years old and has a personality that will make you never forget him. He loves life - he hunts, and rides anything with wheels, and plays sports. He was diagnosed about a year ago. His diagnosis came after he kept waking up with a stomach ache. Finally, a visit to the doctor found his sugar level to be extremely high and he was hospitalized. I will never forget going to visit him the night he was admitted. In true, brave, Ty fashion...he carefully explained to me and others that visited all about the disease and educated us all on every part of the process. He soon became a pro at giving himself shots and checking sugars. Every step of this new adventure... from diagnosis to insulin pump..he has handled with maturity way beyond his years... and takes it all on with a smile and is so brave. It is my prayer that someday he will be able to play sports and hunt and visit me and do all the things he loves to do without worrying about a drop in sugar...or what and when he needs to eat... or needles... or anything of the heartbreaking things that come with this disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
