Our lives were forever changed this past 4th of July when our 5 year old son Davis was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) . T1D is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
Now Davis faces a life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin shots to manage the disease. If you are a parent, you know the drama that surrounds getting a shot for your child. Now imagine that drama at least 4 times a day coupled with 6-8 finger pricks a day to test blood sugars. Some quick math- between Davis' diagnosis this summer and Oct 26 (the day of the Walk) he will have endured over 400 shots- OUCH! You can imagine the urgency we feel to find a cure and change the path that lies ahead for Davis.
We're taking steps to help JDRF progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing this disease. By joining Davis' Dragons Walk to Cure Diabetes team and making a donation to JDRF, you'll raise money to help fund critical T1D research and create a world without T1D. More than 80% of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education.
Will you accept the challenge to make a difference by walking with us and help "slay diabetes"? Just click on the "Donate to Davis" button above or you can join Davis' Dragons team and walk with us on October 26 by clicking on the "Join My Team" button.
Thank you for your support. Thank you for helping Davis, and we hope to see you on Walk day!
