Thanks to your loving support, last year Jaiden's Joggers raised over $4,000 towards a cure!
It breaks my heart to see the day to day struggles my grandson, Jaiden, goes through as a Type 1 Diabetic. Family gatherings are the hardest, when we are surrounded by good food that my other grandchildren are picking through with ease and poor Jaiden has to get stabbed with a needle each and every time he wants to eat something. Pump site changing times are the hardest to experience; when a catheter gets inserted into his body every other day making him cry. Normal childhood activities like running, swimming, and climbing (which he loves to do, as he is a very active child) can make his sugar levels cash dangerously low. Pizza parties and birthday cakes, which most children love to eat, make Jaiden's sugar levels go through the roof and make him feel awful.
As his regular babysitter, I feel like I hold his life in my hands. I watch him like a hawk for fear that he will eat something without me knowing, causing a dangerous high that can lead to health issues later in life. Living and caring for a diabetic is a stressful job that never ends. There are times Jaiden will say "Why me Nana, why do I have diabetes and no one else does? It's not fair. I don't want diabetes anymore, I want a cure." And it makes my eyes well up with tears every time. Being on a pump has made dealing with Diabetes a little easier, but it doesn't take the hurt away.
I want to thank you all for your continued support as my family navigates through this difficult disease. Any donation would be much appreciated and helpful. Together, we can make a difference in the life of my grandson, Jaiden, and so many other children out there like him.
Thank you for taking the time to show you care,
Nana and Papa Abel (Mary Frances and Rick Abel)
