Dear Family and Friends,
It's that time of year again! We are gearing up for our annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes. With your continued support, we hope to put an end to Type 1 Diabetes and find a cure.
As many of you know, Maggie was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes three years ago at the age of 7. Her daily life is not an easy one. Everyday she must test her blood sugar up to 10 times (even more when she is sick). She has to count each and every carbohydrate that she eats and has to take life saving insulin each and every day of her life. She used to have to take shots of insulin throughout the day, but now relies on an insulin pump connected to her body 24/7. Insulin is not a cure, but it is what keeps her alive.
The heart wrenching fact of Type 1 diabetes is that, even with Maggie's diligence, diet, exercise, and tight blood sugar control, she is still more likely to develop heart disease, kidney disease, blindness, and a host of other issues later on in life.
We are walking with the JDRF this year at the University of Nevada Reno on October 16, 2013. Please join our team, Maggie's Magic, or make a tax-deductible donation. Your donation goes to groundbreaking research and helps kids like Maggie have hope that a cure will happen in their lifetime.
Thank you so much!
Maggie, Lisa, and Roger
