Welcome to Little Feet Walk for a Cure fundraising page! We are Lexi, age 6 (diagnosed age 5) and Amdyn, age 6 (diagnosed age 5). We will be walking this year along with our families and friends. Please join us and/or donate to this great cause!
Lexi is the hero of our family! She is such an inspiration to all of us and any who meet her. She was diagnosed with T1D on July 30, 2012. She was a sick little girl; she had lost 15 pounds in 3 months, was excessively thirsty, constantly cranky, frequent trips to the potty, and tired all the time. After a weekend of vomiting and not eating we took her to the doctor and the diagnosis turned our world upside down. Lexi was in Renown Children's Hospital for 5 days getting constant finger pokes and insulin injections. At the same time, mommy and daddy were receiving an enormous amount of information on managing a child with T1D.
The first year has been a whirlwind! We have had our ups and downs, literally!! Most of our days are good days, but we never receive a day off from this disease. On bad days, Lexi says: "I wish diabetes was never invented!" and on good days, nothing is mentioned because she is a normal little girl. She is very caring and passionate about saying thank you to the scientists and doctors that are working hard to find a cure for her disease, saying thank you each night before bed.
This year's Walk will raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money we raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support us and donate to our Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
