Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! I decided to create a team for Renee's school, so please donate to help one of the students reach their goal, rather than to me. I raised $100 in the 5K run last weekend, so I've reached my goals for now.
I decided to fundraise for JDRF recently. My oldest brother developed T1D at age 4, before I was even born. The year was 1954. Management of the disease has improved with time, due in part to research funded by JDRF, but my brother has lived with it for almost 60 years, and lived through most of the possible complications that diabetes can cause.
As an adult I learned what a life with diabetes can really mean; it's not just testing blood and taking insulin. It's blindness and eye surgeries, kidney failure and luckily a transplant, infections that require hospitalization and IV antibiotics, numb feet, neuropathy, and the list goes on. My brother has had it all, and I want to support the research that finds better treatments and will eventually result in a cure, so others won't end up with the complications my brother had and continues to have to this day.
I'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
The number of children and adults developing T1D is increasing, and I feel the need to help. I hope you wil join me in my fundraising efforts.
Thank you for your support!
