Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
A little over 3 years ago I can honestly say I had the worst Mothers Day. One of our twins ,Piper, had been ill for about 3 months. She had a cold and got better, she had the flu and got better, and on and on. Her doctor couldn't figure out why she kept getting sick and why she seemed to not be getting better. I felt like I was on auto pilot to the doctors office once a week. Finally, on Friday May 8th (2 days before Mothers Day) she woke up from a nap sick and her lips were blue. It is a moment in every mothers life they won't forget. So, we took her to the ER and went through her symptoms one by one. The nurse said she has Tyoe 1 Diabetes and I broke. So, I called my husband told him the chicken needs to come out of the oven and I wouldn't be home for a while. Then I watched as 5 nurses tried unsuccessfully to get an IV into my daughter as she screamed. She was in PICU for 4 days to get her blood sugars stable. Then the real fun began .... We went home. Here I had to learn how to manage her sugar through diet and exercise. It's still a huge work in progress and we have had many bumps along the way. I am hopeful though, that one day we will have a cure. She is an amazing 6 year old that has endured so much with a smile.
So, to help fine a cure I'lll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible
Thank you for your support!
