We'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for type 1 diabetes (T1D).
On April 2, 2012 Patrick was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. A diagnosis none of us were prepared for. On April 2, 2012 our family changed.
Type 1 diabetes means counting the carbohydrates for everything you eat all day long, checking your blood glucose levels at least four to five times a day and treating the amount of carbohydrates you eat with insulin.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
Patrick has been on an insulin pump since June of 2012. He went to kindergarten last year and is now in first grade. He loves his family, his friends, school, trains, legos and most importantly life! He is our hero!
Type 1 diabetes affects your life and your families life every second of every day. There is no break. Staying healty means monitoring it all the time. None the less, we count our blessings that we walked in and out of the hospital together.
Wouldn't it be great if the researchers who are working so hard at JDRF were able to find a cure? Everyone with type 1 diabetes including Patrick can live without being insulin dependent. Our goal is to raise money so that a cure is something that can happen soon. Please help us with our goal so that our hopes and dreams for a cure come true.
Thank you so much for your support!
