I am writing to see if you can join my family walk team, Team Amanda, at the Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sunday, October 14th at Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway at 10 AM to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was only 3! This mean that I will be insulin dependent for the rest of my life until a cure is found. My dream is for a cure!
Living with diabetes can be very frustrating. I have to test my blood sugar about 8 times during the day. My mom checks my blood sugar when I am sleeping around 2 a.m. every night. I wear an insulin pump so that I can receive insulin all day long. My pump is connected to my body through an insulin set which is painful to insert. I have to change this set every 2-3 days. My blood sugars go up and down especially when I am playing a sport like basketball, swimming, or soccer. I have a had a few scary lows that I do not remember because I am not myself - I get very hungry and feel very confused and disoriented. I have even had a seizure which is scary for my family. When I am high, I am very thirsty and do not act like myself. I am connected to my pump 24/7!!!! I am only free when I take a shower or swim.
It's awkward for me to ask my friends and family to make donation every year to JDRF, but there still has not been a cure. Every dollar raised will bring us one step closer to a cure because this money goes towards research. Please consider joining Team Amanda at the Walk. It is really a fun day! If you cannot join us, please still consider making a donation to Team Amanda. Please click on the links below to visit my personal page and team page to make a donation. I really appreciate your love and support!
