Hello friends and family,
In honor of my father, a 50+ Type 1 diabetes survivor, my cousins Ava and Isaac, and Jessica, the sister of one of my long-time campers (and the JDRF Walk team I have joined), I'll be walking on October 6th to raise money and awareness about T1D.
I think my dad is one of the bravest people I know. Since I was a child, I have seen him prick his finger thousands of times, I have seen him have to tirelessly monitor every single bite of food he eats, I have seen him have to refrain from my most favorite foods...cake, cookies, chocolate! Seriously though, in all honesty, watching him survive and thrive with this condition has taught me what true strength is really about. And in the past few years he's gone even further and become a full-fledged expert on all things diabetes, even preparing to launch his very own blog based on the lessons he's learned and what he's experienced.
On October 6th I'll walk for him, and I'll also walk for Jessica, who was diagnosed at age 12 and now at 14 lives with TD1 like a total champ. I'll walk for my little cousins Ava and Isaac, who I'm sure will grow up armed with the best knowledge and support possible to adequately manage their conditions. I'll walk for my mother and grandmother, who have remained steadfast in supporting my father, no matter how hard it got, and Elizabeth and Roger who have done the same for Ava and Isaac. And I'll walk for my future children, who are at a greater risk of developing the often genetically transmitted condition.
This is a very important cause to me, so I'm reaching out to my family and friends for support. I would appreciate any donations, big or small, to my Walk fundraising campaign. JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
