Hello! Again this year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country.
Type 1, or juvenile diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children.
There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
My best friend's daughter was diagnosed with Type I diabetes two years ago. She is 8 years old and has been a trooper through the whole ordeal (so has Tessy, mom and Jim!). Kennedy knows how to live with her disease and how to communicate to her caretakers when she's feeling low! But there is no "handling" diabetes. They struggle every single day. She's learned to live with fear, with the emotional and physical highs and lows, but with continued research, more advancements (like a pod instead of multiple shots) and eventually an all-out cure CAN be found.
Less than a year ago, another friend's young son was diagnosed, and another good friend of mine has been dealing with diabetes and many of the debilitating side effects for her whole life.....Kennedy, Brandon and Shorty will have to live with diabetes for their whole lives...unless they find a cure. They are young enough that I hold out hope that this will happen, will you help find a cure?
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!
