Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
For 18 years now, my brother, Ryan has been diagnosed with T1D. Ryan still wakes up with low blood sugars and a bad attitude, but what can you expect? Life with diabetes never gets easier, nor can you take a “day off”, it just becomes tolerable.
As some may know, 2012 was the last North Coast Walk for Diabetes. Some were upset, but no one stepped forward to take over the walk from mom. This move has taken a huge amount of stress off my mom's shoulders. The poker run with FriendShip Food Stores continues to grow and has proved very profitable for JDRF with this year's total over $28,000 !!!
When Ryan was first diagnosed, our family joined together to make our family team for JDRF walk Ryan's Rescue. Mom then took it another giant step and created that walk at East Harbor for over 10 years and more than $300,000 has been raised for JDRF. Mom didn't do this just for Ryan, but for more than 30,000 people each year who are diagnosed with T1D. As she was called when new kids were diagnosed with T1D, she would go and help them understand about taking care of their child with diabetes and encourage them to join the walk and help to CURE DIABETES.
At the end of July, mom was invited to Washington D.C. and listened to all the new research and new marketing tools to help raise money and together be the people to turn type one into type NONE.
Kinda cool, huh?? Many of the new technologies that T1D clients are wearing, like artificial pancreas and continuous glucose monitors (CGM) have been largely funded by JDRF and your donations of past years. Then add implantable beta cell regeneration and smart insulin and a cure is truly within reach.
JDRF's mission is not just a vision for a world without T1D, but a well formulated plan, backed by many years of trials and funding. We can not stop now and we are asking for your help once again.
Our family will be participating in the Toledo Walk on Saturday September 21st.
Please consider a donation to JDRF and be a part of the vision to create a world without T1D.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
