Hello! Most of you know me as just a typical teen, trying to live a typical life. However, on December 1 of 2008, I didn't have such a typical day. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and my life was changed forever.
Diabetes is a disease that I will never outgrow, and can never forget about. I have to check my blood sugar at least 6 times a day. I also have to wear an insulin pump, which serves as my life support. Before I can even think about eating, I have to check my blood sugar. It's a constant balancing act! Diabetes never sleeps and it never takes a vacation. Every day is a battle with a disease you can treat, but never control.
The road ahead for people like me living with diabetes is long and uncertain...but you can help! The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the world's largest charitable funder of diabetes research. In fact a lot of that research is taking place right here in Portland up at OHSU. I am walking on Sunday, September 29th in the Annual Diabetes Walk at Oaks Park to help fund that research! I am also proud that my dad Chris is this years Walk Chair. He takes time out of his busy schedule to serve on the JDRF board to help raise funds and awareness for others just like me! I'm lucky to have him as a dad and JDRF is lucky to have him too. To donate to my walk team, please click on the DONATE link above. Or, you can join my team and walk with us by clicking the JOIN MY TEAM link above. You will then be able to collect donations for YOUR walk effort. See? EASY!
My LIFE depends on insulin and the CURE depends on EVERYONE! Thank you for helping me find a cure!
