Millie was just 16 months when she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It came unexpected and without a doubt, heartbreaking. Millie is our family's love and happiness. You cant help but smile when you see her.
She was diagnosed at UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA then taken to the Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, where she received the best care imaginable. Our family all became educated on what would now be "normal" for Mill. She was the strongest child on the floor, and the youngest. She would smile and giggle, and you would forget why she was in the hospital to begin with.
Since January 2013, Mill has amazingly adjusted to her food, eating schedule, insulin shots, and the pricks to check her blood sugar level. It is inspiring to see such a wee-little one not flinch when she gets her insulin shot, but instead smiles and says "Shots!".
As well as she has adjusted and will continue to adjust, it is heartbreaking that she cannot have a playdate for a couple hours without needing to have her blood sugar tested or cannot share a bowl of icecream with you on a hot summer day.
She has had her ups and downs since her diagnosis, but nothing can bring this little girl down. She is the sunshine in our days and we will fight to find this cure-- for her and all those suffering with T1D.
Please support Mill and donate to our Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease.
