Welcome to the offical site of
Mr.Griffster and Type 1 Terminators!
and home to DIABETRON
We are taking the steps to help achieve JDRF's mission: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
It's been 9 wonderful years since we first learned of Griffy's disease, much of that is because of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Without going into great detail, the JDRF is responsible for Griffin's quality of life today. Without their research, Government advocacy and fundraising Griff would be leading a VERY different life. Because of the JDRF my son can wear an insulin pump, have access to a Continuous Glucose Monitor (and have insurance actually cover it) and someday soon an Artificial Pancreas
......and better yet A CURE!!!!!!!!!!!
Today Griffin is a vibrant and creative young man in the 6th grade at The Shipley School. He plays soccer, baseball and loves to ski. He has terrific friends and enjoys hanging out with them. But unlike most of those friends, Griffin has to check his blood sugar at least 10-12 times daily (thats about 39,400 pricks to the fingers since he was diagnosed!!!!) He has to wear his pump attached to his body by a catheter 24/7. He gets that put on 2-3 times per week. It's a big needle! (that's about 1400 needles since 2002!!!)
Type 1 Diabetes is an auto immune disease. Because of this, Griffin is more susceptible to other auto immune diseases. Since 2002, Griffy has been diagnosed with Celiac Disease, Asthma, High Cholesterol and already has Thyroid Antibodies. That means more than likely he will have Thyroid Disease and he is only 11.
That's a lot for any child to deal with. Not only does he deal with it, he does it with courage, grace and compassion. For 5 years now Griffin has served as a Jr Ambassador to the JDRF. He has visited dozens of newly diagnosed kids so they know they are not alone. He has raised thousands of dollars for research too!
The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.
