Hi, my name is Alexis. I am a Type 1 Diabetic. I was diagnosed at the age of 11. This January will be 4 years! It may not seem like very long, but to a diabetic, that is long. Every day it's the same thing...prick your finger, count your carbs, dose for carbs.. EVERY MEAL AND SNACK!! Needless to say, I am pretty good at math :) That may sound easy, but every carb is not the same and you adjust accordingly. I just can't grab a dish of food and eat, I have to measure everything out and check labels. Sometimes my blood sugar goes high and sometimes it goes low, so I need to be aware of what is happening so that I don't get Ketones or pass out. Every other day, I have to change the port to my pump. So every other day, I get a needle inserted so the insulin can be injected from the pump to my body. The pump is great and it is easier, but it’s hard to figure out where to put it when I wear certain outfits.
Since my diagnosis, my family, my friends and I have been participating in the annual JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes walk in Philadelphia. We hope you will consider donating and we really appreciate all your help and support!
