Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes!
Hi my name is Maranda Jo I was diagnosed at age 4 with Type 1 Diabetes.
When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. As cliche and overused as it may seem, this is my life motto. Basically I took something sour and made it sweet. A great example is when I was diagnosed. It all started when I was about 4 years old, I was about to graduate pre school when out of the blue I developed a nasty stomach virus. My parents thought it was just a bug, but after I started breathing heavily and shallow, they drove me straight to the hospital. There they checked my blood sugar and it was over 1000! A non diabetic person should be 60 to 100. I should have been unconscious. All I remember from there is I was driven in an ambulance with my mom to CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia) why they call it CHOP is beyond me! I mean, why would a kid want to go anywhere named CHOP! I spent a week in the hospital and my parents, sister, and I learned how to manage my diabetes. There are obstacles at times, but I learned how to cope and deal with it.
Overall, I want to do whatever I can to help find a cure so other kids like me can lead normal lives.
Come walk with us or donate so we can help in finding a cure.
Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
I'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
