Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Team Page! We are taking the steps to help achieve JDRF's mission: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Once again this year we are walking in the JDRF Diabetes Walk which takes place on Sunday, October 27th at the Philadelphia Art Museum.
The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.
Jonathan was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of 3. He is now 12 years old and we have been walking every year to raise money to find a cure to free him of this disease. Type 1, or juvenile diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children.
Jonathan is a very active child who plays football, basketball and baseball. He is an honor roll student and is now in 7th grade. Jonathan is a very involved and social child as many of you who interact with him know. Lately, it is getting more and more difficult to regulate him and his sugar levels constantly fluctuate. We are looking forward to a time when he will not have to check his blood sugar approximately 8 times a day or take injections before every meal or snack he eats. We don't want to have to worry about low blood sugars from his heavy sports activity or counting carbs for meals precisely to ensure that his sugar doesn't go too high. Jonathan wants more than anything to just live a normal life.
The JDRF Walk is a fantastic way to make a difference in the millions of lives of people affected by type 1 diabetes. For at least that one day, they will look see all the support they have from their friends, family and community. On Walk Day, everyone can have fun and celebrate how much closer to a cure we are because of their efforts.
