Hello to my family, friends and awesome past and newly registered supporters... My HERO's!
30 years ago, on Saturday, May 28, 1983, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
30 years of insulin injections (because my pancreas refused to continue working), multiple finger pricks to monitor my blood gloucose levels, treatment of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and to those of you who were close to me during my teen years...remember that it was not a fun thing to deal with.
30 years of living... I wake up every day because I do what I need to, to keep me going... I may have to monitor my lifestyle; what I eat, drink and my activity levels. Keeping this all in check helps me through my life's daily routine and spontaneous activities. I can't tell you how many times I asked "why me?" and said "I didn't ask for this." Well maybe I didn't, but I want to live as normally as possible. What I've been doing for most of my life is normal...for me anyway. But it's not just my life anymore... My Kenny is almost 12... he has been through it with me from his beginning. As I don't want for him to be in caregiver mode...he knows how to help...He's my ultimate hero...
I have Type 1 Diabetes... Type 1 Diabetes doesn't have me.
Join me for our 2013 JDRF walk and help me celebrate the fact that I'm still going strong!!!
Love and smiles always,
