WE CANNOT BELIEVE IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!!!
Ring Around Our Josey is gearing up for our 4th Annual Walk for a Cure!
Josey had a FANTASTIC year in kindergarten and we were so blessed with her amazing teacher and school nurses! This week she will be heading off to first grade and embarking on new challenges, but we do not have any doubts that she will be able to conquer all of them- just as she has proven since September 29th 2010. We were told by many at diagnosis that one day Josey's diabetes would become second nature or "new normal" to us and that we would stop being consummed by the fear and sadness. Though much of this has been true-- we remain hopeful and yearn for a cure to this challenging disease.
On Josey's toughest days, she is constantly reminded of "her team": RING AROUND OUR JOSEY. She knows that we all love and support her with all of our hearts, but once a year she gets this one day for us to show her just how much her battle with T1D matters. As her parents, it's our job to help Josey keep this hope alive and with the help of JDRF and your generous donations, fantastic improvements and remarkable research get us closer each year to our goal-- our little girl getting a cure.
This past November, Josey was also diagnosed with Celiac disease. About 15% of juvenile diabetics are diagnosed with this disease restricting Josey's diet even further. This adjustment, like all changes, has taken some time and patience to adapt and become educated. To no surprise- Josey has done a remarkable job at going "G-Free" (gluten free), but also taking ownership of making sure that the things she eats are healthy for her. You can often hear her asking "Mom, is this gluten free?" or "Dad, how many carbs are in this?" We could not be more proud of her progress, but answering these questions and many others like "Will I have diabetes when I am a Mommy?" or "Can I eat gluten next year?" never gets easy.
We have a strong little girl and we are blessed with such amazing familes and friends to keep her feeling so loved. Please continue to help us in this fight by joining our team and donating to such a worthy cause... Josey's smile and heart.
Thank you again for your continued support...
