Dear Friends and Family,
We write to ask for your help in support of a cause that has become very dear to us. On October 28, 2012, our family will walk in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation?s (JDRF) Walk for a Cure.
Most of you know why we participate in the walk. For those of you who do not, our son, Eric, was diagnosed with Juvenile or Type 1 Diabetes last June at only 7 years old. This last year has brought with it a great deal of adjustment for our family, and especially for Eric. He has become accustomed to pricking his finger 4-5 times a day in order to monitor his blood sugar, counting every carb he eats and injecting insulin every time he eats.
This disease demands one?s attention 24 hours a day in order to stay healthy and alive. Eric has risen to the occasion beautifully. We are often in awe of his positive attitude and the maturity he displays as he manages his disease.
While the daily routine is demanding and unyielding, insulin is not a cure for diabetes and our concerns center around the toll that diabetes takes on the body over time.
The good news is that researchers are predicting that a cure is within reach in our lifetime. The money raised by this walk and the JDRF is entirely focused on this one goal a CURE.
We are asking for your help and support this year as we Walk to Cure Diabetes. There are two ways in which you can help:
