Hello and thank you for visiting my page!
This year, I will once again be walking in the JDRF Walk to Cure Type 1 Diabetes as a proud member of Team Deloitte! Whether you are a friend, relative or complete stranger that I've yet to meet, I appreciate you taking the time to visit my page and read my story. This year marks a special event, as not only am I walking as a member of Team Deloitte, but I have also just accepted an offer to work for Deloitte when I graduate!
Ever since I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in my Junior year of high school, my life has not been the same. Every day is filled with multiple finger pricks, insulin injections and counting carbs. My best friends have become Capri Suns; you can always be sure that I have at least 2 of each in either my pockets or backpack. Although the physical aspects of having Type 1 Diabetes are definitely challenging to live with, I have been lucky enough to incorporate them into my daily life. The mental aspects of the disease however, are much more difficult to cope with, especially in the college setting.
I am very fortunate to be studying Mechanical Engineering up at Penn State. However, the material can be difficult and usually ends up making me pretty frustrated. On top of that, I am the Executive Director for this year's Penn State Dance Marathon. I wouldn't change anything about my Penn State experience so far, but it does have its downsides. Anyone familiar with Type 1 Diabetes knows how stress can mess with your body, and I can attest to that. I fight a constant battle with stress and its effects on my body and it can be extremely draining. However, let's be honest here...Type 1 Diabetes hasn't destroyed me and I don't plan on letting it anytime soon! With the help of my AMAZING friends and family, as well as the support of people I've never even met, I know that one day we WILL find a cure.
