Welcome to my team JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
I am a Type 1 Diabetic (T1D). I was diagnosed when I was ten years old in February 2009 and ever since then I have been insulin dependent. I am currently fourteen years old and will be entering my freshman year at Pope John Paul II High School this Fall. Although I have made great strides in managing this disease, I will continue to be insulin dependent until a cure can be found.
This fall I will be joining more than 900,000 fellow walkers from across the country in the 2013 Walk to Cure Diabetes to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
I am asking for your help. By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from my life and the lives of millions of others until no one has to fear developing this disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
In year’s past I have participated in the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes campaigns which I found to be a very rewarding experience. This year I have decided to participate in the JDRF’s Walk to Cure Diabetes. I have come to learn that JDRF is the largest private funder of T1D research and has a strategic research plan in place to fight T1D. I believe my participation can and will make a difference in finding a cure.
Please help me reach my goal by supporting me for this year’s JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. I choose the team name STRONGER THAN DIABETES because I believe, by joining together against this disease, we can continue to advance the research necessary to ultimately find a cure for this devasting, life-threatening disease.
Thank you very much for your support!
