Dear Family and Friends,
Hello! We hope that everyone has enjoyed their summer and looking forward to having a great school year. It is also time for the annual JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. This year’s walk takes place on Saturday, September 28th at Bicentennial Capital Mall in Nashville.
As many of you know, our family has faced the challenges of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) for 4 years when, Cale now 11, was diagnosed in 2009. What you may not know is that our daughter, Cati Jo 15, has also been diagnosed with T1D in March of this year.
Doctors and Scientists are close to some major breakthroughs in T1D research with things like,
1. The Artificial Pancreas Project
2. Beta Cell Encapsulation
Until then, Cati Jo and Cale still have to check their sugars levels 6 to 8 times a day by pricking their fingers and getting 4 to 5 shots a day. If you figure all that out, it adds up to a lot of finger pricks and shots in a year.
The peace and the sprit that they get from God is what keeps them going every day. Even though having T1D is tough and challenging for them both, they just keep their faith of knowing that they get there strength from God and all things are possible for them. Cati Jo and Cale help each other out, with Cole right alongside helping them. Cole has given great support to them both.
As parents having to give them shots or watch them do it their selves, is a hard task to do. But watching them all work together is a blessing. Owning their disease is a great accomplishment, and not letting it control their lives.
Cati Jo still loves to sing for Jesus, and has been singing with her Dad in some local churches and in his Band. She belongs to a great Youth Group on Monday nights, who supports her and prays for her healing.
Cale still doesn’t let Diabetes slow him down. His love for Jesus is even stronger, and he still loves to race Midget Cars, but this year he has decided to play football with his brother. He is on his second year of playing the trombone and he LOVES it.
So how can you help to further this amazing research and support Cati Jo and Cale?…..
