Welcome to our personal family JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
We'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Heath was an active 10 year old boy. When we noticed that he was tired more that ususal. He was also thristy and had dark circles under his eyes. We attributed it to allergies. Allergies had affected him for many years. He had gotten sick one night after eating dinner, so we decided that he needed to go to the doctor to get his allergy medicine changed. Little did we know that night would be our last "normal" night of his childhood. The next day, his dad took him to the doctor. The doctor was about to write a new prescription for allergy medicine and send him on his way but as they were about to leave, Heath's doctor said." Let me do one more check". It was the check that changed our families life forever. He did a finger prick for a drop of blood. The meter read high. It has to be over 450 for a meter not to read the blood glucose number. At that moment, April 28, 2010, our lives changed forever. Heath's dad called me and told me the news, I tried to remain strong and tell Heath that it would be ok. We could and would tackle this problem as a family. Then, I hung the phone up and cried the rest of the way home. That next day, we went to Vanderbuilt . Vanderbuilt Eskin Diabetes Clinc was our life line. They taught us what to do in a few hours time. They assured us they would be by our side all the way and they have. Every time we need them whether it be night or day, we just have to call. Heath's story is not as dramatci as some. Some kids find out after they have passed out or been taken to the ER for being very sick. We have had our ups and downs with this disease. It is a struggle and hassle for Heath. We are hoping for a cure every year. JDRF gets closer every year. Please help us turn Type One Diabetes into Type NONE for Heath and the millions that live with this disease every day.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
