Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
My name is Miles and I am like every 10 year old boy on earth, except I have type 1 diabetes. My favorite thing to do is fish, as you can see from my picture. I don't let diabetes slow me down or stop me from what I love to do, but it would be nice to not have to stop and check sugar and get a shot. Which is why I am walking for a cure! I was just diagnosed January 27, 2013. I had to go by ambulance to Vanderbilt Hospital where I learned all about T1D and how to take care of myself (well I listened, I'm only 10). I can give myself shots, check my blood sugar, and count my carbs, but I really prefer my mom or dad to do it. This is my first walk for a cure and I am very excited. I want to raise money so that me and my Papa Wayne, who has T2D, don't have to have insulin fo the rest fo our lives. I hope you can donate but if you can't thats ok, we would love for you to walk with us on October 19th in Murfreesboro.
I'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. My goal is $1,000. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
