We are writing you on behalf of our daughter, Bria Olivia Carey. Bria was diagnosed at the age of four (4) years old with juvenile diabetes-type 1 which means she will be insulin dependent for the rest of her life. She is required to check her blood sugar level by pricking her fingers 3-6 times per day and requires 3-5 insulin shots per day. Although insulin shots are necessary to help Bria feel better, the insulin shots are not a cure!
Those individuals with Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes can no longer produce insulin; therefore, constant attention and daily care to keep blood sugar levels in balance, injecting insulin, following a diet, exercising and testing blood sugar levels are some of the day-to-day requirements. In order to feel good and stay healthy, a person with Type 1 diabetes must follow a daily management routine. The most frustration and heartbreaking feeling about this condition is that the fluctuations in blood sugar levels can lead to devastating long-term complications. Even though Bria is very knowledgeable of her disease, she still continues to pursue every day with determination and perseverance.
As Bria's parents, we truly believe there will be a cure in her lifetime. We are hoping a cure will be found soon but research cannot be done without funding. Our intent is to raise every dollar we can to ensure that the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation brings a cure to Bria and the many other children living with this chronic disease.
Would you please donate to our family team, Bria's Bond of Believers toward the annual 5K Walk to Cure Diabetes on Saturday, October 5, 2013. Bria will be able to receive credit for all donations made by October 5, 2013. Please help our family team to reach our $3,000 goal. This is the largest worldwide organization dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes. There are two ways you can help us make a difference for Bria and every one living with diabetes:
