I been a Certified Diabetes Educator for the past 10 years and an Insulin Pump Trainer for the past 8 years. I am a Doctor of Pharmacy, but have always had a passion for helping patients with diabetes in particular. I have been asked numerous times why I became a diabetes educator, and never really had a good reason other than it interested me.
This summer I realized why I was led to learn as much as possible about diabetes. My son, Eli was diagnosed with TID at the age of 7. Since early in my pregnancy, I have prayed that God will do all possible to keep my children happy and healthy. Now I know that one of my many blessings in life was that I was led to learn about the disease. In the past I have helped other families of T1D during the initial diagnosis and steep learning curve. I never imagined my family being in those shoes.
Eli has the heart of a servant. He enjoys community service and has worked with other organizations since he was able to walk. Soon after diagnosis, he told me he hated diabetes and he was going to figure out a way not to have it. I hope that he will. We feel confident that a cure is close and that he will see one in his lifetime. We are excited to begin our service with JDRF in the hopes of finding a cure.
