Four years ago I was losing weight and I was always thirsty. Since I was drinking so much I had to go to the bathroom all day long and three times in the middle of the night. My parents were concerned because I was losing all this weight. On September 14, 2009 I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. The doctor sent me to the hospital. I stayed there for four days. At the hospital they taught me how to prick my finger, check my blood sugar, give myself shots of insulin, and calculate how many carbohydrates are in my meal. A normal day requires me to prick my finger 5 times and give myself 4 shots. Once I got home, I did not want to talk about it nor wanting it to be part of my life. My blood sugar was always in a good range and I thought I could deal with it all by myself. I did not need God to help me, I had it under control. Well I thought… This past year has been the hardest… My blood sugar was in the 200s and 300s when it should be around 100 and I did not understand why. I was trying to fix it by myself but it was not working. I got angry at God and was questioning as to why he would do this to me? I then started ignoring him. I then went to a church retreat this summer and realized everything I do I should rely on God, including my diabetes. I have now realized that even if my blood sugars are high if I rely on God I know everything will be okay. I have always thought everything has happened for a reason and soon realized my reason was to share what God has done in my life through this disease. It would be amazing if I could say that we finally found a cure to diabetes and God is the one who did it! So I would love to ask if y’all could help support me find a cure to Type 1 Diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
