Dearest Family, Friends, & Colleagues,
On Sunday, October 27th, our family will be walking in the Walk to Cure Diabetes, sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JRDF). We have a personal connection with this disease that affects millions of children and adults. Our son, Michael Austin, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in March 2012. He was 2 ½ years old.

Our lives have changed drastically. We must prick his finger ten times each day and through the night to test his blood sugar and give him four shots of insulin each day to keep him alive. That's about 3,650 finger pricks and 1,460 shots per year. We measure or weigh all of his food and count every carbohydrate he eats. Keeping his blood sugars in a normal range is a constant balancing act. This will continue for the rest of his life unless a cure is found. He did nothing to cause it. His immune system attacked his pancreas. Think about it. Michael Austin will never remember life without diabetes unless a cure is found. You can be a part of his miracle.
Thanks to the JDRF, we have tremendous hope for a cure and need your support and help to make it happen! We formed a team for the Walk, Michael Austin's Miracle, in order to do a few things: 1) raise money to support the research required to find a cure, 2) show Michael Austin that he is not alone in his fight against this disease, 3) educate those we know about type 1 diabetes.
The JDRF is the leading global organization focused on Type 1 diabetes research, donating more than 80% of expenditures directly to research. Currently, JDRF is funding 53 human clinical trials, several in advanced stages. A cure is in reach and with your help it may become a reality, a miracle, for Michael Austin and the 3 million other kids with Type 1 diabetes in theUS.
Be a part of Michael Austin's Miracle!
We sincerely appreciate your consideration and support of this most worthy cause. We are really looking forward to having as many people as possible join us on October 28th for the Walk! For those who can't make it that day, we are extremely grateful for donations of any amount to JDRF in support of Michael Austin's Miracle. Our son's life depends on insulin, but the CURE depends on EVERYONE!
Please call or write us if you have any questions. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous support of Michael Austin.
With Love and Gratitude,
Jill, Michael, Genevieve, &
Michael Austin Putegnat
