Hello Friends and Family!
We are writing today to ask for your support of a cause close to our hearts. It's been four years since Reid was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D). We still remember the moment when we were sitting in the pediatrician's office being told that instead of going home we were headed straight to the Children's Hospital. We remember as Reid "crashed" and was rushed to the ICU. We remember the moment I realized our lives were never going to be the same again.
Our lives have certainly changed quite a bit since June 17, 2009. Reid tests his blood sugar seven times a day. He wears an insulin pump and gives himself insulin everytime he eats carbs. We all have become experts at counting carboyhdrates. Did you know that 55 goldfish has 20 grams of carbs? We do! In January of this year Reid got a continuous glucose monitor (CGM). This new technology gives us continous data about his blood sugar level. It tells us if his blood sugar is going up or down and beeps if it thinks it is going too high or too low. It's truly amazing!
JDRF is a non-profit organization that raises vital funds that power the global movement to help cure, treat and prevent T1D. They fund the research that brings us devices like the CGM and because of JDRF we will find a cure in the years to come.
Our family is walking in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sunday, October 27 in Austin so we can help raise funds and awareness to further the mission of JDRF.
Please join us! If you are in Austin we hope you will walk with us as part of Reid's Jedi Knights. If you can't walk with us we hope you will make a tax-deductible donation to make a difference in Reid's life and in the lives of all people with T1D!
Our hope is that one day very soon Reid will be able to live without having to constantly think about diabetes and its effects. JDRF is funding groundbreaking research which will help Reid and millions of others with better treatments and a cure.
Now, more than ever, you can make a difference. Please consider making a donation to JDRF in honor of Reid's Jedi Knights. Together, we can make the cure a reality!
Thank you for your support!
