As you may know, our daughter, Grace, lives with type 1 diabetes (T1D). She was just 3 years old when she was diagnosed. Our neighbor Will was diagnosed last fall, when he was 10 years old. We would really love it if you would join our families in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on October 19, 2013 at 9:00 am at The Woodlands United Methodist Church in The Woodlands, Texas.
Because of T1D, Grace's pancreas doesn't produce insulin, which everybody needs to digest the food we eat. So she has to test her blood sugar 5-8 times a day, by pricking her finger. She is connected to an insulin pump 24/7, which gives her insulin to stay healthy. Will doesn't have a pump yet. He injects himself with insulin 4 or times a day, and of course he has to prick his finger many times a day too. Having T1D means Will & Grace (and our families) have to pay careful attention to their diet, exercise, sleep and a lot of other things to keep a balance between blood sugar lows and highs.
It would be great if you will sign up, donate and come walk with us this year. I know that the Walk will be a lot of fun, and I also know that YOU can make a difference to kids like Grace and Will who have T1D. Please visit our team page by using the link below to make a donation.
Thanks and warm regards,
Nancy and Travis Stricker
