Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
Hello. My name is Ethan Lang and I am 11 years old.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was two years old. I don't really remember what it was like before I had diabetes, but I can tell you it is not easy now to live with this disease. Because I have Type 1 diabetes my body does not make insulin. So, I have to take shots or wear an insulin pump that puts insulin into my body. I hate shots, so I wear an insulin pump but mom and dad have to move the site where the tube is inserted into my skin every 3 days. That's no fun. Also, I have many other things that I must do like keeping track of what I eat and counting carbohydrates. Many times each day I have to check my blood sugar levels. This means I have to prick my fingers to get a little bit of blood and put it into a meter to test how I am doing. This hurts a lot, but it is important to make sure I stay healthy. If I don't do these things, I will have many problems with my health. And, I must do this all day long . . . and every day. I never get a break from it.
There is an organization called JDRF that is helping me to find a cure for diabetes. They work with scientists and very smart people who are working hard to come up with better treatments and to find a cure.
Every fall the JDRF has a huge event called the Walk to Cure Diabetes. It is a lot fun and it is an opportunity to help raise money so that we can find a cure for diabetes. I love JDRF because of the great work they are doing to help me. Also, my Dad’s company, Sequent Energy Management, helps by sponsoring a Walk Team to help raise money for the JDRF.
Would you like to help? If you would, here is how to do it.
You can make a tax-deductible contribution of any amount to support my team and help me and the millions of others inflicted with diabetes. Simply click on Donate to Ethan
Or, you can send a check to my mom and dad at our home at 3607 Glen Haven Boulevard, Houston TX 77025. Please make checks payable to JDRF.
I can’t wait for the day when I am cured of Type 1 Diabetes. Thank you for supporting me and giving me hope that I will get to that day!
